Description

Description RE100 is a collaborative initiative of influential businesses committed to 100% renewable electricity, working to massively increase corporate demand for renewable energy.
Objectives
Activities RE100 shares the compelling business case for renewables and showcases business action, while working with others to address barriers and develop transparent reporting mechanisms.
One or two success stories achieved Apple, Bank of America, and General Motors were among the new companies that joined RE100 during Climate Week NYC 2016 – taking the total number of members to 81, and helping to create demand for more than 100TWh renewable electricity http://there100.org/news/14231034.

RE100 won the 'Pioneer' award at the British Renewable Energy Awards 2016 - recognized for its efforts to accelerate the corporate take up of renewable energy through commitments to renewable power and creating a pathway that others can follow. http://there100.org/news/14221867

Progress towards the goals Campaign has grown to 81 companies (at Climate Week NYC 2016), from 14 companies when the campaign was launched at Climate Week NYC in 2014. They are creating demand for over 100TWh of renewable electricity – more than enough to power Morocco three times over.

The Annual Report, published in January 2016 http://media.virbcdn.com/files/f9/d6e716c56a9b3312-RE100AnnualReport2016_v17.pdf , showed that the 45 companies in the campaign at that time were on average half way to achieving their 100% goals, with companies in the retail sector having switched the largest amount of electricity to renewables (10,764,000 MWh) and those in the IT sector being closest to achieving their 100% goals (averaging at 64% progress). We are currently analyzing data for the 2017 Annual Report and expect to report on geographical demand and strategies for going 100% renewable.

How are you tracking progress of your initiative Participants are encouraged to report to CDP's climate change questionnaire, or as a minimum report basic data such as total electricity consumption and total renewable electricity use on an annual basis. Progress towards RE100 goals are tracked as a percentage of total renewable electricity used in total electricity consumption of a company's entire operations. This is reported in our Annual Report every January, and included in company profiles on our website.
Available reporting Company data is made available in the RE100 Annual Report, published in January, including progress towards achieving 100% renewable power and the different options of renewables that companies are using, where available. All participants are made aware of the data that will be made publicly available when reporting.

Basic information on total electricity consumption and total renewable electricity usage is made available on company profile pages on the RE100 website. http://there100.org/companies

Company achievements are published as news stories on both the RE100 website and The Climate Group website, and included in the monthly RE100 e-newsletter that is sent to both campaign participants as well as prospect companies and partner organizations. Stories are shared on both the RE100 and The Climate Group Twitter handles, with more than 3,000 and 100,000 followers respectively.
