Description
Description
The R4 Rural Resilience Initiative (R4) is a comprehensive risk management approach to help communities be more resilient to climate variability and shocks. Currently active in Senegal and Ethiopia, The World Food Programme (WFP) is also piloting the initiative in Malawi and Zambia. Our vision: 100, 000 insured farmers by 2017.
Objectives
100,000 insured farmers by 2017
Activities
R4 builds on the success of the Horn of Africa Risk Transfer for Adaptation (HARITA) project in Ethiopia. It gives poor farmers and rural households the option to pay for insurance by contributing their time and labour to local climate adaptation measures, such as crop irrigation and forestry projects.
