Description

Description ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability is an international association of local and metropolitan governments dedicated to sustainable development.

ICLEI provides technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge, and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level. The basic premise is that locally designed and driven initiatives can provide an effective and cost-efficient way to achieve local, national, and global sustainability objectives.

Objectives Its main goal is to build and serve a worldwide movement of local governments to achieve tangible improvements in global sustainability with specific focus on environmental conditions through cumulative local actions.
Activities This association promotes local action for global sustainability and supports cities to become sustainable, resilient, resource-efficient, biodiverse, low-carbon; to build a smart infrastructure; and to develop an inclusive, green urban economy with the ultimate aim to achieve healthy and happy communities.

ICLEI has different programs that help local governments of all sizes worldwide to build more sustainable cities and communities through the themes of urban development, urban governance, Eco-City and Green City, eco-budgeting and sustainable procurement. Some of the main programs include: a. ecoBudget; b. EcoCities Network; c. Sustainable Procurement
