|Full story text|| Airport Carbon Accreditation was launched in June 2009 in Europe. In its inaugural year (2009-2010) the
number of airports participating in the programme was 17. In its sixth programme year (2014-2015), Airport Carbon Accreditation reached global status. The programme was extended to North America and Latin America and the Caribbean, thus covering all five ACI regions, as an increasing number of ACI member airports publically reported on how they are managing their carbon emissions. Airport Carbon Accreditation status was achieved by a total of 125 airports. The total number of airports in the programme at the end of this reporting year (Year 7 2015 -2016) is now 156, representing a 25% growth in participation compared to the previous year. These airports cover almost a third (31.3%) of world air passenger traffic.
